WYOMING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's volleyball opened their season on Saturday, losing both of their matches in a tri-match with Emmaus Bible College and Grace Christian University.
Facing Emmaus in the first match of the day, GLCC lost sets one and two (25-15, 25-21) before rallying to win set three (26-24), the first set the team has won since it was re-launched. The Eagles closed the game in set four (25-14).
Alissa Nugent led the team in kills with six (.455 K%) and assists with four. Jillian Wilson had eight digs and contributed four kills (.300) while Stella Dunham scored four aces. Verah Banasky piloted the Eagles' ofense with 19 assists and Nellie Hopkins had a game-high nine kills (.074)
Emmaus finished with a .092 kill percentage as a team to GLCC's .083.
The second match was more lopsided as Great Lakes faced an in-region contest with Grace. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead and never let it go, taking the match in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-14).
Nugent again led GLCC in kills with five (.188). Wilson contributed seven assists and Emma Hokanson led with 10 digs. Ella Brown paced the host Tigers with 10 kills (.625). Dana Du Chemin picked up 11 assists and Eleyna Zichterman tallied five aces. Grace killed .246 as a team while GLCC finished with a -.038 kill percentage.
Great Lakes will return to the Doty Center for their home opener on Saturday as they face another regional opponent, Boyce College.
