Crusaders 19 Threes Not Enough in Exhibition Against Davenport

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Great Lakes Christian College Men's Basketball team traveled just up the road to Grand Rapids to take on Davenport University in an exhibition. The game was the Crusaders third game in four days. The Panthers of Davenport came into this game fresh after not playing a game for an entire week. The Crusaders started the game sluggish and the Panthers took advantage from the start building their lead to 13-3 in the early stages. GLCC would chip away and have get the score to 18-13 with 11:50 to go in the first half, but the Panthers would respond with a 31-18 run to close the half up 51-31. The Panthers shot 57.1 percent in the first half and were out rebounding the Crusaders 24-11. The lone positive for the Crusaders was the three point line which they went 8/14 from deep in the first half.

In the second half, the Crusaders showed more fight and energy than the first half. Lance Adams caught fire in the second half hitting 7 threes in the second half which set the tone for GLCC. The Crusaders cut the Davenport lead to 14 multiple times, but were just unable to get over the hump to get any closer. Adams hot shooting rubbed off on his teammates as the Crusaders would go 11/30 from three in the second half for a total of 19 threes as a team. Adams led all scorers with 27 points, and set the Davenport Basketball Arena for most threes in a game. The Panthers would win by a final of 105-77.

• JaQuin Jones was in double figures for the 10th straight game this season scoring 14 points
• The Crusaders were out rebounded 52-23
• The Crusaders shot 19/44 from three compared to 7/26 from two.
• Davenport Panthers shot a blistering 57.1 percent from the field including 13/29 from three

What Coach Says:

"This was a tough one for us, we just did not have the energy tonight. This was our third game and four days, and we just let fatigue affect us. Davenport was sharp and focused on both ends of the floor and we just were awful defensively. We did not do a good job guarding their actions. Overall though I was proud of our guys responding in the second half and really battling. We had a some good moments tonight, we just need to sustain it." On the three point shooting, "Both teams shot the three well tonight. Hitting 19 threes typically should win you a game, but unfortunately our defense wasn't good enough. Lance got hot, and it is just fun to watch when he is hot. I think I have the best three point shooting team in the country and tonight was an example of how well we can shoot the ball from deep." On state of the team heading into Thanksgiving, "It has been quite some time that our program has had a winning record heading into the break. We are 6-3 which is awesome, but we still have a lot more to refine and get better. I am excited about where our program is right now and the direction we are going. We just have to focus changing our best daily."

What's Next:

The Men's Basketball team is off until after Thanksgiving. They will travel to Ohio to take on Lourdes University Saturday November 24th. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00pm
