Women's Soccer Places Six Players on All Region Teams
LANSING, Mich- The Great Lakes Christian College Women's Soccer program continued to set new bars for the program Monday evening. One week after finding out the Women's Soccer program checked in at #3 in the first power rankings the Crusaders found out they had six members of their team named to an All Region team for the Mideast Region. The Crusaders had three earn First Team Recognition and three earn Second Team All Region. All Region voting is done by all the coaches within the region.
1st Team:
April Gillespie, SO Midfield/Forward- The sophomore from Alabama had very strong year for the Crusaders leading the team in points, and tied for the lead in both goals and assists. Gillespie a skilled creator for the Crusaders attack scored 5 goals and tallied 2 assists in the fall campaign. She tied for fourth in the country with goals per game at .714 goals per game.
Hailey Conine, JR Forward- Conine was the finisher for the Crusaders offensive attack, she earned one Student Athlete of the Week award. Conine tied for the team lead in goals and was second on the team in assists. Conine also tallied 5 goals and dished out one assist on the year. She also tied for fourth in the country with goal per game at .714 goals per game.
Hannah Rossner, JR Defender- Rossner was the anchor of the fourth ranked defense in the NCCAA. The Crusader defense gave just 1.86 goals per game, and during the five game unbeaten streak the Crusaders conceded just .6 goals per game in large part because of Rossner's command of the back line.
2nd Team:
Katarzyna Polek, JR Goalkeeper- Polek had a very strong year in the goal conceding just three goals all year while in the net. Her goal against average was an incredible .57 GAA, which was good for second in the entire country. Her 85% save percentage was good for third in the entire country. Polek guided the Crusaders defense to two clean sheets. The Crusaders were undefeated with Polek in the net.
Randi Fitzgerald, FR Forward- Fitzgerald had a strong freshman campaign for the Crusaders. Her speed terrorize opposing defenses as Fitzgerald was tied for second on the team with goals with 2 goals. Fitzgerald was fifth in the country in shots per game with 4.3 shots per game, and she was first in the country in Shots on Goal per game with 3.14.
Morgan Chamberlain, FR Midfield- Chamberlain controlled the midfield for the Crusaders as a holding mid. She scored one goal while dishing out two assists. Her two assists tied for the team lead. Chamberlain a physical player for the Crusaders dictated tempo for the blue and white.
Coach Sam Sibilski had this to say about his girls earning All Region Recognition, "To get 6 players named on all Region teams is a fantastic accomplishment. Every player has put alot of time and hard work to get where they are today, I am very proud of them and to know that their hard work has been recognized is well deserved."
Crusaders finish the fall season 3-2-2, and finished the season on a five game unbeaten streak.
