ROCHESTER, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's soccer debuted on Wednesday with a 5-1 loss at Rochester College.
The home team took the initiative early with a pair of goals in the first quarter-hour, Kirsten Schapman assisting Taryn Ryan then Hannah Swanson to put Rochester ahead 2-0 early. Ryan scored again in the 31st to give Rochester a 3-0 halftime lead.
After Schapman scored off an assist from Ryan to make it 4-0 in the second half, April Gillespie scored the first goal in GLCC program history off an assist from Emily Rector in the 76th. A late Rochester goal by Sydney Turner pushed the final line to 5-1.
Rochester out-shot Great Lakes 32-7 and Brenna Vert put in an 11-save performance in goal for Great Lakes. Both Turner and Great Lakes' Hannah Rossner both received bookings in the game.
Great Lakes will host NCCAA foe Maranatha Baptist in their home opener on Oct. 2.
