Great Lakes Wins Big on The Road Versus Grace
WYOMING, MI – Great Lakes Christian College turned in a dominant performance on the road, defeating Grace Christian College 67-43 on February 4th. The team showed depth and balance, with multiple players contributing to the victory, highlighted by a career-high 20 rebounds from Mykenzie Kent.
Great Lakes opened the game strong with a 12-8 lead after the first quarter, and while Grace Christian mounted a challenge in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 20-15. Great Lakes quickly regained control. They stifled Grace in the second half, holding them to just 8 points in the third quarter and 7 in the final frame, ultimately cruising to the win.
Mykenzie Kent was a force on both ends, recording a double-double with 12 points and an impressive career-high 20 rebounds. Kent’s effort on the glass was critical, as Great Lakes out-rebounded Grace Christian 50-37 overall. She also added 2 blocks and 3 assists.
Offensively, Leah Yanko led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 6-11 from the 3-point line. Yanko also added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal. She was instrumental in maintaining pressure on the scoreboard throughout the game. MaKensie Mondy also contributed significantly, scoring 17 points, while also pulling down 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist.
Marin Abe’s defense was unstoppable, while also contributing 13 points, 7 assists, 7 steals, and 4 rebounds. Jamira Shumpert created a spark, while adding 5 points and 6 rebounds.
Great Lakes held Grace Christian to just 25.4% shooting from the field (15-of-59), including a dismal 1-of-19 (5.3%) from three-point range.
The Crusaders now shift their focus to Friday, where they host Appalachian Bible at 6:00pm for Senior Night.
