Great Lakes Christian Cruises to Victory Behind Devan Buda's Career-High 28 Points

Great Lakes Christian extended their perfect start to 2-0 in regional play with a dominant 86-32 win over Maranatha Baptist on Friday night.
Devan Buda was the standout performer, leading all scorers with a career-high 28 points. The senior guard was a consistent offensive force, including 2 three pointers, and going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. In addition to her scoring, Buda also recorded 5 assists and 6 steals.
Great Lakes came out of the gates strong, building a 31-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. The offense was clicking, but it was the defense that set the tone.
In addition to Buda, several other players stepped up Friday night. MaKensie Mondy contributed 16 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 steals. Leah Yanko had 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Jamira Shumpert and Marionna Dixon played pivotal roles in keeping the pressure on Maranatha throughout the game.
Jamira Shumpert brought in 7 points on a perfect 2-of-2 shooting from the field, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. Shumpert also contributed 2 assists and 2 steals.
Marionna Dixon finished with 8 points (2-of-4 from three).
With contributions across the board, the team continued to extend their lead, scoring 46 points in the first half. Great Lakes’ defense was strong, forcing 43 turnovers in total.
Great Lakes Christian will look to build on this victory as they head into a crucial stretch of regional play. The team will travel to Wisconsin for a rematch against Maranatha Baptist on Thursday, January 23rd, before facing off against Mount Mary on Saturday, January 25th.
