Three Women's Basketball players receive regional honors
WYOMING, Mich. - Three players from Great Lakes Christian College's women's basketball team were honored with All-Region honors at the NCCAA DII Mid-East regional tournament at Grace Christian University on Thursday. Mystic Striker made the second team, Allazae Lloyd made the third team and Sakura Nakano received an honorable mention.
Striker, a junior, finished led the team in rebounds, averaging 8.2 per game and finished second in scoring with 12.5 points per game. She appeared in all but one of the team's games, shooting 38.9 percent from the floor.
Junior Allazae Lloyd's season was interrupted by injury but she made the most of her nine starts, leading GLCC in scoring average with 13.3 points per game. She also contrubuted 5.8 rebounds per game.
Sakura Nakano, the team's junior point guard, was the only Great Lakes player to start all 22 games. She led the team in assists, averaging 3.1 per game and scored 10.9 points per game. In addition to receiving her honorable mention, Nakano was also named the region's Newcomer of the Year.
GLCC, the five-seed in the regional tournament, will face four-seed Johnson University (Tenn.) in the quarterfinal at Grace on Thursday at 7:30.
