LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's basketball could not complete its comeback attempt on Tuesday night, losing 72-66 to Bob Jones University at home.
Both offenses struggled in the first quarter, BJU taking an 11-9 lead. Great Lakes briefly took the lead in the second, but a 13-0 run by Bob Jones opened up a lead they would not relinquish.
Trailing 40-22 at halftime, Great Lakes opened the second half on an 8-0 run that got them within striking distance only to see BJU extend their lead back to 15 in the fourth. GLCC made a valiant comeback attempt once more, ripping off 26 fourth-quarter points, but could ultimately get no closer than four as Bob Jones held on to win.
Sakura Nakano led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including making three of her five three-point attempts. She also led Great Lakes with eight assists. Mystic Striker scored 16 and Careya Pace scored 11.
Delaney Edwards scored 18 for Bob Jones and Annie Miller grabbed 15 off the bench. Both Shea Dickinson and Hallie Ritter picked up 10 rebounds.
Great Lakes will go on the road after the break to take on Miami Hamilton for the second time this season on Wednesday, December 1 at 6:00 p.m.
