Shorthanded Women's Basketball routed in opener by Emmaus
LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's basketball lost their season opener on Saturday, 72-39 to Emmaus Bible College.
Emmaus scored the first eight points of the game, led 17-8 after one and 40-16 at halftime.
Great Lakes' offense did not score double-digit points until the fourth quarter and Emmaus outscored them in every frame to close a straightforward win.
GLCC missed several players from the women's soccer team, including Randi and Rachell Fitzgerald, as they were withheld from the game ahead of regionals next week.
Great Lakes struggled from the floor, mustering only 18/61 (29.5%) shooting from the floor and making only one three-pointer (1/13, 7.7%). Emmaus made 30 of 68 field goal attempts (44.1%) and two of 12 from deep (16.7%).
Kia Gelinas racked up 30 points for the victors and Hannah Boyer grabbed a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Mystic Striker led Great Lakes with 13 points but took 28 field goal attempts to do it (6/28, 21.4%) and missed all five of her three-point tries. Allazae Lloyd scored nine and Sakura Nakano tallied eight in their GLCC debuts.
GLCC will return to action at the Doty Center on Tuesday when they take on Ohio Christian at 5:00.
