Ewalt Leads Men's Soccer Trio with 1st Team All Region Nod
LANSING, Mich- The Great Lakes Christian Men's Soccer Team was honored when the NCCAA Mideast Region announced their All Region Teams. The Crusaders put three men on the team. Gavin Ewalt led the way for the Crusaders, with 1st Team All Region recognition. The senior captain was the anchor for the Crusaders much improved defense. He was a calming presence for the young Crusaders squad. Ewalt's calming presence and skill on the ball impressed the coaches in the region with his play. Ewalt is the first Crusader Men's Soccer player to earn first team all region in over five years. Caleb Yonker and Zach Johnson each earned 2nd Team All Region. Yonker had a very strong freshman campaign for the Crusaders scoring 4 goals and dishing out one assist. He led the Crusaders in both categories as well as points. Zach Johnson was second on the team in goals with two. His play in the midfield impressed the coaches to earn the 2nd Team nod.
The Crusaders finished their season 1-6-1 on the year and took another strong step in the right direction this year. Coach Ian Kurth had this to say about the recognition his players earned, "We are incredibly proud to have three players placed on All Region teams and recognized for their individual performances this season. It serves as a testament to there quality as players and commitment to helping rebuild this program despite all the challenges that 2020 has thrown at them. These individuals have bought into the process 100% and it was great to see their hard work acknowledged by others and rewarded."
