JV Men's Basketball comeback falls short vs. Grace in Detroit
DETROIT - Great Lakes Christian College JV men's basketball almost pulled off a 24-point comeback on Tuesday, but fell short 75-73 against Grace Christian University at Little Caesars Arena.
Grace scored the first eight points of the game and continued to build their lead through the first half, leading 44-24 at the break.
With 12:07 left, Grace took its largest lead of the game, 62-38. Great Lakes' offense finally roared to life, ripping off a 23-4 run and trimming the lead to four with 4:53 to go.
A Larry McLean bucket cut the deficit to one with 53 seconds left, but Elisha Moore responded with a score at the 21-second mark to push the lead back to three. McLean missed a would-be game-tying three-point attempts, but Dawson Grizzle picked up the offensive rebound and was fouled with three seconds remaining. Grizzle made his first free throw to make it 75-73, then adeptly missed his second attempt on purpose, grabbed his own rebound and very nearly sent the game to overtime with a put-back, but the ball rolled off the rim and Grace escaped with the win.
Josh Thompson led GLCC with 25 points and Jalen Johnson scored 16.
Ethan Clason scored 22 to pace Grace and Adam Rearick grabbed 11 rebounds to go with his nine points.
Great Lakes will visit Welch College on Friday on day one of a two-day roadtrip.
