JV Men's Basketball wins opener in overtime
LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College men's JV basketball won a thriller in overtime in their first game of the season on Friday, beating Welch 109-100 in overtme.
Welch led at halftime, 42-41, but Great Lakes made things level after the break, forcing a 91-91 tie and an extra period.
Great Lakes pounced on the opportunity, outscoring Welch 18-9 in the extra five minutes to take the 109-100 win.
Andre Watkins, Jr. led all scorers with 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting (78.6%) and grabbed nine rebounds. Jalen Johnson scored 22, Larry McLean, Jr. added 19 and Dawson Grizzle led all players with 15 rebounds to go with his nine points. GLCC shot 39 of 70 from the floor (55.9%) and almost as well from beyond the arc, 53.6% (15/28).
Eli Sacrlett led Welch's five double-digit scorers with 20 points off the bench. Welch made 42.1% of their attempts in the game (40/95) but only 12 of 39 three-point tries (30.8%)
GLCC will next face Concordia at home on Thursday.
