Men's Basketball survives scare from Ohio Christian
LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College men's basketball won a tense battle on at home on Tuesday, comng back late to beat Ohio Christian 90-85.
Great Lakes took the early lead off a 20-point first half from TQ Belcher and led by as many as 12 in the first half before going into the break up 43-33.
Ohio Christian came storming back early in the second half, pulling off a six-point play (a three-pointer made with a simultaneous off-ball foul that kept possession with OCU was then converted into a traditional and-one) to tie the game at 61 and eventually taking a late six-point lead.
A couple of pivotal threes from Isiah Reed clawed Great Lakes back into the game and they retook the lead, building it to 88-84 with one minute left. OCU cut the deficit to one with a free throw, but could not muster another bucket and Belcher salted the game away with a pair of late free throws.
GLCC forced 24 turnovers (including 17 steals) while committing 12. The team shot 33/71 (46.5%) from the floor and 10/15 (40%) from three. OCU's overall shooting percentage was similar (35/78, 44.9%), but they struggled from deep (8/28, 28.6%).
Belcher lead all scorers with 24 points and Reed scored 16. Juan Woods led Ohio Christian with 20 and Jimmy Salamone added 19.
GLCC will head out to Wyoming, Mich. this weekend for a tournament at Grace Christian University, where they will face Boyce College and Welch College.
