Men's Basketball drops opener at Concordia
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College men's basketball fell to Concordia University 92-82 in their first game of the season on Tuesday, opening the campaign with a loss for the fourth year in a row.
The game was tied at 40 at halftime, but Concordia hung 52 points on Great Lakes in the second half and held on for a 10-point win.
As a team, Great Lakes shot 30/60 from the floor (50%), including 13/29 from three (44.8%). Concordia made 36 of 66 overall (54.5%) and 10 of 26 from deep (38.5%).
Trent Temple led GLCC with 23 points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes. Titus Lawrence scored 12 and Kylan Shipp added 10 in his debut off the bench.
Thomas Hronis led the home team with 29 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Zackary Johnson scored 21.
Head coach Rich Westerlund was not happy with his team's performance, saying "we did not do a good job executing our defensive game plan or honoring our principles. We won't win too many games giving up 92, so we have quite a bit to clean up."
He did note the performances of Temple and Lawrence as positives, saying they "both played well for us."
The team will need to rebound quickly as they host the first-ever William Westerlund Memorial Classic at the Doty Center this weekend. They will face Manhattan Christian College on Friday night at 7:00 and Emmaus Bible College on Saturday at 3:00.
