Coach Lynell McCrary enters her second season at the helm of Great Lakes Christian College Women's Basketball Program after taking over the program in middle of September. She has worked tirelessly in her first year to develop and retool the GLCC Women's Basketball culture. In her first year the Women's Basketball program succeeded in the classroom with a 3.2 team GPA. Coach McCrary has also done a great job recruiting in her first full year bringing in a class of 14 student-athletes.
Coach McCrary brings a competitive spirit and proven track record in impacting lives and building programs. Great Lakes Christian College will be McCrary's first college head coaching job, but it is something she is excited about. McCrary said, "I am very excited to be joining the Crusader family at Great Lakes Christian College. I believe God has opened this door for me to bring my experience and competitive spirit to build the women's basketball team. I look forward to this opportunity with great anticipation and all that we will accomplish this year and years to come."
Coach McCrary is eager to bring in a versatile and exciting style of play that will bring an identity to the Lady Crusader basketball program. Prior to Great Lakes Christian College McCrary has served as Health and Physical Education teacher at three different charter schools in North Carolina and one middle school in California. She also had a stint as an assistant coach for one season at Citrus Community College in California. McCary got her undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Biola University where she competed as a scholarship athlete in Basketball, Cross Country and Track and Field. She completed her Masters in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific in Physical Education as well.
Director of Athletics Richard Westerlund said, "This has been an exciting process for us here. We had over 50 applicants for our women's position with many highly qualified coaches. Throughout this whole process Coach McCrary stood out. We could tell she was a great fit for our college and she had a vision to for this program. Her biggest quality that stood out to me though was her passion to impact the lives of our student-athletes. I could not be more thrilled to have Lynell and her family come be part of our GLCC family. I think they will be true impactors on our campus."
Coach McCrary is married to her husband Joe and have four children together, JD 9th grade, Kayden 7th, Makiya 3rd grade, Talon Kindergarten.
